It has a top and a bottom stamp and will on it's top as well as it's bottom. The Zippo bottom stamp marks the authenticity of every genuine Zippo lighter. The initial system of dots and slashes created to aid identification of lighters coming back to Zippo for repair was later replaced by letters and Roman numerals and still later by letters and digits signifying the month and year of manufacture.
